SPECIAL FEATURE formed in December of 1988. From the very first chord they sang together, they knew this was something...well... "special". It didn't take them long to move up the ranks in competition to become Far Western District Champs in 1990. ( yes it was that long ago! ) Before they won District, they had to decide if they wanted to find a new quartet member to take over for their bass Billy Hill. Billy's wife Julie, was given a great career opportunity in Reno Nevada that they couldn't pass up. At the time, all of them lived in sunny Southern California. So Julie simply asked them "Why don't you all just move to Reno with us?" Well, they thought it was a pretty silly question until they started thinking about it. They were all up in Reno just after the NEW YEAR of 1990.
For the next few years SPECIAL FEATURE spent literally every weekend ( or so it seemed ) performing on Chapter shows, and honing their craft. By 1993, SPECIAL FEATURE had the great opportunity to Place 5th at the Barbershop Harmony Society's ( formerly SPEBSQSA ) International competition in Calgary Canada. Truly an honor for them.
From 1994 to SPECIAL FEATURE's split in fall of 1999, They continued competing at Internationals, and performing across North America. Along the way, they also appeared in the PBS special " QUARTETS", and on Good Morning America. In the mid 90's, SPECIAL FEATURE began performing at the Atlantis Hotel in Reno, NV for the annual classic car convention called "Hot August nights". During that week of singing they had found their place in the a cappella genre, singing Doo-wop. Well, actually they called it " Barber-wop."
After competing about every other year at Internationals, SPECIAL FEATURE competed for the last time in 1999. After that, they decided to dip their toes in the world of professional entertainment. But in 2000, their 12 year journey of singing together came to an end.
