Stage Four was formed in early 1970 and they competed in their first FWD contest in October of that year winning the novice championship by finishing in 8th place out of 39 quartets.
In 1971 the quartet placed 2nd in the District competition and was the FWD alternate for international.
Their continued musical efforts resulted in the Stage Four being awarded the FWD Quartet Championship in 1972 in Bakersfield, CA.
The quartet represented the FWD at the 1973 international in Portland, OR with Bob Jackson singing Baritone in place of Stan Sharpe, then residing in California.
