The 1958 Far Western District champions are the Bay Town Four. They were a popular show headliner quartet with David Boughman on Tenor, Dick Sayor emoting the Lead, Don McDanial singing Baritone, and Fred Anderson holding down the low Bass tones. After the passing of Don, the Baritone role was assumed by Gordon Jones.
The Baytown Four competed in five Internationals. The first was a 9th place finish in Chicago in 1959. The quartet medaled at 4th place in both Philadelphia in 1960 and Dallas in 1961. They were also 11th in Toronto and 10th in San Antonio.
They attribute much of their success to their mentor and chorus director, Dave Stevens. They say he was a great guy and took their "Californians" to the international chorus championship in Los Angeles in 1957. Dave then went on to be the head of music for the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA).
The quartet folded up in the early '70's after 15 years of harmony.
